Clcik here if you’re looking for Kirsty Hurd-Thomas’ Shiatsu website
To make changes to your website you will need to login to your dashboard (see Personal links at end)
You should be able to edit most of your website, but of course don’t hesitate to contact me if you need any further advice or support.
Your website uses (see picture far right):
- Posts (these are your newsletters)
- Media (pictures, videos and PDFs)
- Pages (not Home page)
- Appearance (where you can change nearly everything else including menus, footers etc)
Each newsletter is stored as a ‘Post’. To create a new newsletter add a New Post.
Make sure you assign each one with the Category ‘newsletter’. This ensures that they automatically display on your Newsletter Page and the most recent ones display in the footer. Note: they are displayed in ‘data published’ order (which you can change or edit see image below).
Note the following Posts are used to display the 5 elements on the Home page …
Title/URL: Choose the title of the page carefully. The address or URL of the page will be created from this. You can edit the URL but, once its been on your site for a while, changing it will disrupt SEO/Google searches and if anyone has linked to the old name the link will fail.
Parent page: e.g. pages about Shiatsu would have ‘About Shiatsu’ as their parent page / pages about you would have ‘About me’ as their parent page / unrelated, one-off pages (like Qi-Gong) would have no parent page.
Sidebar: Choose ‘RIGHT sidebar’ if page is related to Shiatsu (all Shiatsu pages display the site’s sidebar – see image below). Otherwise choose ‘NO Sidebar’. See below how to change what’s in the sidebar.
You cannot edit the actual ‘Home Page’. Instead use Appearance – Customise – Home Main Content Area. Note: this is not a simple process and you might well need my help here.
Use Appearance – Customise -Menus
You can add Pages, links to external sites, Posts with a particular category
These are the menus set up so far …
About Shiatsu – displayed as part of the Shiatsu related sidebar (made up of mostly Pages)
Footer main pages – contains the ‘Site map’ displayed in the Footer (made up of mostly Pages)
Front Page Menu – the main menu displayed on every page (made up of mostly Pages)
Inner Page Menu – not used
Useful links – part of the Footer (made up of ‘Custom Links’)
This appears on Shiatsu related pages (see picture far right)
Use Appearance -Widgets
Copyright text and FaceBook logo use Appearance – Customise – Footer options
For the four columns use Appearance – Customise – Widgets
Column 1 = something (a widget) that displays some text and an image
Column 2 = menu (‘Footer main pages’) – made up of Pages
Column 3 = something (a widget) that displays ‘Recent Posts’
Column 4 = menu (‘Useful links’) – made up of ‘Custom Links’
The contact form is defined in ‘WP Form’ (available from the dashboard)
The MailChimp newsletter signup form is defined in ‘MailChimp for WP’ (available from the dashboard)
Special Pages (do not edit these)
Blog page – you cannot edit this. To manage your ‘blog’ or Newsletters simply edit and add Posts add add category ‘newsletter’ and they will display automatically in the right places
Home page – you cannot edit the Home page from here. It is controlled via Appearance – Customise – Home Main Content Area (more info above in various places)
Slider Placeholder pages – this controls the main image at the top of the Home page. Each of the four sub pages contain a ‘Featured image’ and text that is displayed over the top of the image. At set up, all had same text (quote from Daverick) and then two images duplicated (in effect to keep each image on the screen for longer)
These are not live links (for security) – to use them, copy and paste them into your browser address bar
