and who am I?

The Climate and the Environment

Many of us would love to know about ways we could influence real change. There are no easy answers – but occasionally I hear of a really good idea, project or concept with the potential for creating real change, or that supports us to remain positively engaged. But so many people never hear about them.

Sign up and I’ll let you know when I hear of something. It might just inspire you and help you feel you’re doing more than just recycling, insulating or signing another petition.

Click to hear about inspiring ways to do a little more

I hear of these because of my involvement with a large number of movements, my love of networking, and living in South Devon – with its strong community of activists, creative and forward thinkers (many of whom I know personally) and an abundance of innovative projects, communities and organisations (for example Schumacher College, Embercombe, Transition Town Totnes (one of the first), WildWise).

For example - the CEE bill

Have you heard about …?

CEE bill imageThe Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill

Drafted by scientists, legal experts, ecological economists and environmentalists, the CEE Bill requires the UK to take responsibility for its fair share of greenhouse gas emissions, to actively restore biodiverse habitats, and to stop damaging our natural world through the production, transportation and disposal of the goods we consume.

The Bill (as of Sept 21) has support of 115 MPs across 8 political parties. Short video explaining the CEE bill [1.36 mins] – as of Mar 21

I know of two initiatives that will help this Bill pass into law and sooner rather than later.

For example - Active Hope

Have you heard about …?

Active Hope imageActive Hope

Active Hope is about finding, and offering, our best response to the crisis of sustainability unfolding in our world. It starts by accepting that the challenges we face can be difficult even to look at: climate change, the depletion of oil, economic reversals and the die-back of our natural world act together to create a planetary emergency of overwhelming proportions. And it offers an approach that strengthens our capacity to face disturbing information and respond with unexpected resilience and creative power.

I’ll send some more info about this soon: about the book and online courses

In the meantime, here is a link to a short Active Hope online course (6 evenings) run by a friend of mine, that starts in October

Using IT – tips & workshops – for everyday people

Zoom help pages and tips

We are constantly collecting and adding to our FREE tips for using technology (e.g. 24 help pages on using Zoom).
We also run online tutorials & workshops (e.g. Zoom, Social Media, Calendars, Password Managers, keeping my computer tidy etc.)

Click to hear when I add new free tips or schedule a session

I’ll send you occasional tips and will let you know when sessions are coming up.

For example

Last year I ran a series of successful online trainings on how to use Zoom – covering six topics, the demand was such that I repeated them a number of times.

New workshops in planning:

Using “messaging Apps” – Text, WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, Messenger. The Basics; Shortcuts; Comparing them and which to use when; using them on your computer (as well as your phone); attaching pictures, links to web sites, articles, videos etc.

Facebook Posts – the basics of creating a Post and sharing someone else’s Post; adding pictures, videos, links to websites; how to make your Post stand out and look good (with Facebook’s limited formatting options)

We occasionally organise online evening discussions. A chance to get together with others and discuss various issues/topics and what they might mean for each of us. Recent topics included: Charles Eisenstein’s essay “the Coronation” (re the Corona pandemic) / Doughnut Economics / the ‘Police, Crime, Sentencing & Courts Bill’.

“So important to have these spaces to dialogue and to identify our collective and individual responses to being the change”

For example

“I find I can best “get to grips” with a subject when I’m in a group discussing it, hearing other people’s (and sometimes my own) views.”

“When I know I’ll be discussing it with others, I’m more inspired to read up about it.”

Massimo photoWho am I?

Apart from my main career as IT professional (providing database, website and other systems solutions and face-to-face and online training) …

… I am also passionate about my grandchildren, and the climate and environmental crises.

I have been involved with a number of movements and organisation over many years, from local to international.

I have lived in South Devon since 1999 – with its strong community of activists, creative and forward thinkers, and rich abundance of innovative projects, communities and organisations: such as Schumacher College, Embercombe, Transition Town Totnes (one of the first), WildWise.

My main strengths are as a communicator, networker, facilitator/trainer/leader, coach, initiator  and systems & detail thinking.
