The host must assign a co-host. There is no limitation on the number of co-hosts you can have in a meeting or webinar.
Make sure the co-host feature is enabled via your ‘Settings’ – ‘In-Meeting (Basic)’ on the zoom.us website
Co-hosts CANNOT
- End meeting for all participants
- Make another participant a co-host
- Start breakout rooms or move participants from one breakout room to another
- Start waiting room (co-hosts can place participants in waiting room or admit/remove participants from the waiting room)
Co-hosts CAN
- Mute participants (and request that a participant unmutes)
- Stop a participant’s video (and request that a participant starts their video)
- Prevent participants from screen sharing
- Rename a participant
- Put a participant on hold (if this feature is enabled)
- Choose to play an enter or exit chime
- Lock the meeting to prevent anyone new from joining
- Manage the Waiting Room (once it is started by the Host) – place participants in waiting room or admit/remove participants from the waiting room (waiting room can only be enabled by the host)
Uses for co-hosts
Ways they could support you (so you can focus on running/facilitating/presenting the meeting):
- Welcoming people at the start
- Welcome latecomers (perhaps via Chat)
- Mute people (when appropriate)
- As co-presenters – to break up style and flow of a meeting
- Keeping an eye on the Chat
- Keeping an eye on Participants – both on screen and in the Participants list (hands up, icon feedback etc.)
- Someone to write important notes, references, names, contact details etc. into Chat (being careful not to overwhelm the chat – e.g. not minuting what’s being said).
- Answer technical or simple questions in the Chat
Make sure you agree how they should get your attention.
Consider sharing mobile numbers and communicating anything important via WhatsApp or text
